PRESS RELEASE - Brussels, 6th of January 2026
Belgian sustainability network The Shift and Chapter Zero Brussels, the Belgian climate and nature governance network for board directors, are joining forces. Together, they are building one strong network to strengthen sustainability across organisations – from the boardroom to day-to-day operations.
The collaboration responds to a growing need in the Belgian ecosystem: organisations require boards of directors, management and operational teams that are strategically and
practically equipped to navigate the transition to a sustainable economy.
For more than a decade, The Shift has worked with sustainability teams and managers
across business, social profit organisations, academia and public institutions. It is also
the Belgian contact point for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
Chapter Zero Brussels’ mission is to mobilise boards to accelerate the transition to net
zero and build climate resilience. It is part of the international Climate Governance
Initiative, developed in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, and connects a
growing community in more than seventy countries reaching more than 100,000 board
directors worldwide. Both organisations share the same ambition: embedding
sustainability firmly in decision-making.
By bringing the activities of Chapter Zero Brussels within The Shift, both networks are consolidating their expertise in one place. This enhances their shared impact on board-
level leadership and implementation teams, while creating a cohesive offering that brings governance and day-to-day practice closer together. From the Director Climate Journey to communities of practice focused on building climate-neutral, nature-positive, inclusive and fair business models: these flagship programmes bring like-minded peers, experts and frontrunners around the table to develop and implement sustainability strategies that work in practice.
Tim Van den Bossche, Chair of the Board of The Shift: “By joining forces, we can embed
the transition more firmly in all levels of organisations and increase our impact.”
Gilda Neiman, Chair of the Board of Chapter Zero Brussels: "Chapter Zero Brussels
entrusts The Shift with supporting the next phase of our impact in Belgium both through
a larger community of board directors and through more opportunities of knowledge
sharing and strategic ideas for our members.”
Magali Frankl, CEO of The Shift: “We are seeing topics such as investing in the energy
transition, resource scarcity and supply-chain risks come up more frequently at board
level. That is where the strategic choices are made to invest in business models that
create value for society.”
At its New Year reception on 27 January 2026, The Shift will announce the renewed board
that will lead the integrated organisation. In addition, a Chapter Lead will be appointed
within The Shift to further develop the activities of Chapter Zero Brussels in Belgium.
