Executive Director (Freelance) 



Position: Executive Director

Location: Belgium (Remote)

Commitment: 2-3 days per week

Industry: Climate Change, Sustainability, Governance, Non-profit management


About Chapter Zero Brussels:

Chapter Zero Brussels is part of a global network of board directors committed to taking action on climate change. We engage and empower board directors across Belgium, Luxembourg, and the EU by providing them with the network, knowledge, skills, and tools to have strategic boardroom discussions on the risks and opportunities of climate change for their companies. Our mission is to ensure that climate-competent board members guide their companies towards a sustainable, net-zero future.


Role Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned professional with experience in corporate sustainability  to join us as an Executive Director. This freelance position requires a commitment of 2-3 days per week (negotiable) and focuses on leading the organisation, growing our reach with partners and members and managing our various education programs. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and resourceful leader, able to represent Chapter Zero Brussels in various forums and drive our mission forward.  The person would report to the Chair of the Board of Directors. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the operations of our association

  • Work with the Chair and the Board of Directors to co-design the strategy and ensure the association meets its objectives

  • Actively engage and grow the network of members, partners and supporters

  • Working with the board to secure private and public funding to achieve Chapter Zero Brussels’ mission (total budget of approx. 200K EUR)

  • Promote, coordinate, and facilitate our education programs and masterclasses, including the Director Climate Journey

  • Support the content and running of community building and knowledge sharing events


Qualifications:

  • 10-15 years experience in sustainability and/or corporate climate strategies

  • Strong project management and organisational skills

  • Excellent communication skills in English (FR/NL is a strong advantage plus)

  • Self-starter with a learning mindset and a passion for sustainability.

  • Ability to manage budgets and financial planning

  • Proven track record in partnership development 

  • Ability to network and manage diverse relationships with key senior partners and stakeholders

  • Proficiency with web-based tools such as Mailchimp, Zoom, and WIX and google workspace applications

  • Business development and/or sales experience, in a non-profit context, would be considered an advantage 

  • Previous experience managing member-based organisations is a plus

Programme Manager (Freelance)


Position: Programme Manager

Location: Belgium (Remote)

Our mission is to ensure that climate-competent board members guide their companies towards a sustainable, net-zero future.


Role Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented self-starter with administrative and IT experience, and a keen interest in sustainability and climate change to join us as a Programme Manager. This freelance position requires a commitment of 2 days per week and focuses on supporting administrative functions, content creation, event management, and communication.  This person would report to the Executive Director of Chapter Zero Brussels.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle accounting, invoices, database management, member renewals, and simple website updates

  • Manage event logistics and ensure organisational efficiency

  • Assist with web design, newsletter design, and content development

  • Assist in creating and managing online resources, blogs, and newsletters

  • Support marketing and promotional activities for education programs and events

  • Support the planning and execution of online and physical events

  • Help manage and grow our network of members and partners

  • Assist in grant writing and other fundraising activities

  • Help manage relationships with philanthropic organisations


Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

  • Comfortable with various IT programs and web-based tools (Mailchimp, Zoom, WIX)

  • Self-starter with a learning mindset and a passion for sustainability

  • Good communication skills in English (FR/NL is a strong advantage)

  • Experience in administrative roles and database management

  • Interest in sustainability, governance, and climate action
